Dear Dr. Dahl and Dr. Parkinson,

Thank you for your response, dated 19 September, to our letter of 21 April. We appreciate your acknowledgement of the progress RELX and Elsevier are making to reduce our carbon emissions. We share the Union of Concerned Scientists’ view that urgent action is needed to address climate change.

In our previous response, we comprehensively set out how we are working in good faith to fulfil our commitments, the actions we are taking and updates on our progress, which are also available through our public reporting.

We have a track record of taking documented, science-based action in line with the UN Race to Zero criteria. We are committed to continuing to conduct our business and operations in a way consistent with the climate commitments we have set, and in line with UN Guiding Principles on business and human rights. As we mentioned previously, we embed the ten principles of the UN Global Compact in our Code of Ethics and our Supplier Code and work to meet its environmental commitments including undertaking “initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility.” We also offered, in our email of 14 April and in our letter of 21 April, to meet with you to engage constructively, understand your concerns and work to address them. That offer still stands.
